We met dancing… and we haven’t stopped.
Hi, we’re Sarah and Ryan, better known as Me Time and Midnight Snack, and we met dancing.
After meeting at Harvest Festival in 2017 and eventually falling in love (we’ll tell you about that later), we began to reflect on the number of friendships we’ve made in and around the dance floor. How was it that in this loud, raucous environment, in a community that’s often portrayed as shallow and excessive, we’ve made deep and lasting friendships that have changed our lives? What is it about the dance floor that facilities real human connection beyond anything we’ve known on Tinder or Instagram, at conferences and networking events, and even in ‘real life’?
Indeed, we’ve spent a combined 15 years on the dance floor. It’s our sanctuary. Though we both DJ and throw events professionally, we were dancers first. We each found our own ways to the dance floor, which we will share soon, but what united us is the music, the people, and the community we found there.
We Met Dancing is truly a labour of love. In collecting your stories, we hope to gain insight into what makes friendlier, safer and more inclusive spaces and how we can facilitate friendship, connection and community on the dance floor.
