“Did we meet dancing?” – the most common question I get asked about this project.
If you’re asking, chances are you did.
We use ‘dancing’ to mean dance music culture and community in the larger sense. Did music and the joy of flailing your body around bring you together?
So, with that, here are some places you might’ve ‘met dancing’ beyond the dance floor:
- Waiting in line at the door, the bathroom or bar
- Losing your friends and finding a sweet new crew
- Outside without a coat on, huddled around the heat lamp
- Trying to untangle your earplugs
- Looking for your coatcheck ticket
- During the buildup when you lock eyes with someone who knows what’s about to drop
So, did you meet dancing after all? If so, share your story and join the tapestry connecting me and you to dance floors around the world.
This brings me to an important note on consent. The dancefloor is a magical place to meet new friends, but unfortunately it is also an environment full of questions and unwanted advances. Consent is not just about sex. The best way to create a lasting, meaningful friendships is to ensure consent is freely and enthusiastically given. Understanding what this means is as easy as drinking tea – educate yourself and share with your community to create better, safer and friendlier dancefloors. #consentiseverything
